Education

Bonnie workshopping compost. We are passionate about empowering people with the knowledge they require to live a satisfying life within ecological limits. Our design process is a collaborative and educative one. We design with our clients so that they can continue to tend to their system with a designer’s eye. After all, an ecosystem design is never complete.

We also facilitate a range of courses and workshops.

Design

Design is the at the core of permaculture and at the core of our work. Peacetree Permaculture practices what we call really sensitive design — that is, design which is finely tuned to the particularities of a given site — climate, soil, rainfall, original vegetation communities, household water use and the resource requirements of any proposed plants, animals or structures. We specialise in really sensitive design for the South West of Western Australia.

Design for Mt Hawthorn Garden. Our passion is the design of edible forest gardens and other plant and animal polycultures. These are systems with multiple plants and animals which yield more than simpler systems and need less maintenance on account of the way the plants and animals work harmoniously with one another.

Consultation

Peacetree Permaculture is available for consultation on sustainability related projects. We specialise in ecologically sensitive solutions to the provision of human needs — whether physical or social — and in consultative design processes. We have significant experience in Western Australia’s growing community garden sector in addition to having worked with both non-profit and government organisations to develop sustainability design solutions and programs.

Creation

We have a very particular approach to creating and nurturing the systems we design or work with. For biological elements of the system, we do our best to ensure that they flourish. We provide the best plants and animals and the best soil ammendments and plant feeds that are available. If there is the time, we prefer to allow soil to grow naturally over several years and we provide a mix of soil conditioning plants and biological ammendments like compost teas to assist natural processes.

Backfilling an 'urbanite' wall.We try as much as possible to use resources which are available on site. Where that is not possible, we try to use resources from the waste stream of our society.

We work very closely with our clients and do all we can to keep our work sites safe and tidy while working. When we’re finished, we leave sites looking great.
